chaz Posted 5 October , 2014 Share Posted 5 October , 2014 Mike not much to help but his father isn't on a census either. there are Thomas Donichey listed in the 1901 and 1891 census also there is a Sarah Donickey age 41 in 1881 any variation on the surname on FMP seems to originate from Scotland or Border regions, and there are a few, its possible that the person digitising the listings guessed a h for a k or similar
deacs Posted 5 October , 2014 Author Share Posted 5 October , 2014 Thank you Chaz for looking, this chap has been a bit of a nightmare for me to try and find. I have been researching through "The West Cumberland Times" from 1914-1919 and he keeps cropping up but doesn't give a connection to why he is remembered on Cockermouth War Memorial. Looks like he will be a mystery ! Regards Mike.

deacs Posted 6 October , 2014 Author Share Posted 6 October , 2014 (edited) Chaz this is where it gets even more complicated, according to the newspaper of 1916. There is also a P Donoghue as well as P Donicky. Who said researching was easy ! Thanks for looking it is very much appreciated cheers. According to CWGC there are only 3 P Donoghue's and i haven't found him either. Here is the newspaper clipping.
