elewis Posted 3 October , 2014 Share Posted 3 October , 2014 I take no credit for knowing about this excellent website, I was tipped off about it by Tullybrone (Steve Y.) This website that is ideal for locating where soldiers serving in the Australian forces in WWI enlisted and where born (over 44,000 were born in England alone)http://mappingouranzacs.naa.gov.au/default.aspxBy using the map of the UK (very handy for finding nearby locations) or the search facilities you can see where people were born. For instance using Broadway, Worcs, as an example on the map it shows 4 were born there, then click on the "Born here" and lists the names, then click on the name and it takes you straight to the documentation for the person. As always the system is only as good as the data, the one "Broadway" man is actually Broadway in Dorset. Likewise using the search rather than map there is a "Broadways" ..... but on his papers it clearly says near Broadways rather than Broadway. Using the Australian locations also gives the places where people enlisted as well as the Australians born there. Probably some other good facilities on it that I have not found with the first quick play!. EDIT: Just found in the news items on that site that from August 2014 it is being replaced by http://discoveringanzacs.naa.gov.au/ Evan
