eviltaxman Posted 29 October , 2004 Share Posted 29 October , 2004 I haven't got a clue what either are, but the second pic of the "horseshoe" looks more right (if there is such a thing!) than the other if you know what I mean?!?! It looks like the letters MJ or JM. Les.
PhilB Posted 29 October , 2004 Share Posted 29 October , 2004 The figure in the horseshoe looks like the W (for Wilhelm) you see, with a crown on top, on the Imperial German inspection stamps. Phil B
DrB Posted 30 October , 2004 Share Posted 30 October , 2004 Really a guess, but the leaf collar badge is perhaps a USN Nurse one. They were present to nurse the wounded USN and USMC patients in WWI. Perhaps stationed in Great Britain? The Nurse Corps Dress Regs for 1917 only state that "the collar badge..." etc but never describe or picture it. This badge is still worn, in gilt, on the collars, left side, by Navy nurses. (Perhaps you have a WWII one) The rank is now worn on the right side. The badge appears to be the same one, or very close, in appearence to the present one, an oak leaf with no attaching twig, which is the emblem of the Medical Service Corps. (or "Twigs" as they are sometimes referred to) Hope this helps a little... DrB
