Local man buried in this cemetery, does anyone know if it was used for burials from any certain POW camps or is it likely that men were brought in from many areas to this cemetery.?

Would be most grateful for any information.

Bob.

The burials include those from

Czersk PoW Cemetery

Szczypiorno PoW Cemetery

Pila PoW Cemetery

There are 174 WW1 casualties buried here (there are also 283 WW2 war graves)

Paul.

Yes,it's (now) in Poland. Pre-1945, it was East Prussia (I think! -my geography's not too good!), and called "Posen".

Incidentally, during WW2, it came under "Wehrkreis" XXI and was the home of Stalag XXI A/Z from August 1940 onwards.

Pila is the Polish name. It was originally called the Schneidemuhl P.O.W. Cemetery when it was in Prussia. Like Dave I'm not too hot on Prussian Geography but I think the district was called Posen as well.

Cheers

Adam

I recently visited Poznan and the old cemetary to visit the grave of my uncle who was shot escaping from stalag luft III in sagan. Many remains have been interred here from various areas and there are even graves from the Ist world war.

Trust this assists if you need any more info please let me know
