Bob Coulson Posted 2 May , 2003 Share Posted 2 May , 2003 Local man buried in this cemetery, does anyone know if it was used for burials from any certain POW camps or is it likely that men were brought in from many areas to this cemetery.? Would be most grateful for any information. Bob.

paul guthrie Posted 6 May , 2003 Share Posted 6 May , 2003 Is this in Poland? If so why is it there? If not let me know, thanks.
CROONAERT Posted 6 May , 2003 Share Posted 6 May , 2003 Paul. Yes,it's (now) in Poland. Pre-1945, it was East Prussia (I think! -my geography's not too good!), and called "Posen". Incidentally, during WW2, it came under "Wehrkreis" XXI and was the home of Stalag XXI A/Z from August 1940 onwards. Dave.
brownag Posted 6 May , 2003 Share Posted 6 May , 2003 Pila is the Polish name. It was originally called the Schneidemuhl P.O.W. Cemetery when it was in Prussia. Like Dave I'm not too hot on Prussian Geography but I think the district was called Posen as well. Cheers Adam

Many remains have been interred here from various areas and there are even graves from the Ist world war.
