Hello All,

again another from me wife's family, I don't know anything other than his name Herbert Kerton. I have this picture again found in a family loft and again had been cut down to fit in a frame.

Any Idea on the Uniform? 6th dragoon guards carabiniers?

Many thanks in advance

Rich

And to answer the question: yes, 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) it is.

Very distinctive. The only similar badge I can think of is the Hampshire yeomanry, who were also Carabiniers and had a very similar badge.

Nice pic.

Hello to you both

Thanks for the help

Herbert and Clara married around 1916 I believe in Ripon I think. I had seen the medal card on Ancestry but don't have access to Find my past

They ended up living at 41A Ovington's Court Ripon and 41A North Street Ripon. they went on to have 6 children in total, one of which was my wifes grand mother Olive.

The Carabiniers ended up as part of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, via a couple of amalgamations. t might be worth trying their museum, at Edinburgh Castle, just in case they have anything. They might like a scan of the picture, which is really rather splendid.

Thanks for the tip Steven, I will get in touch with them.

I think there may still be a living Daughter, as she was born 1937, just need to try and track her down now and see if she knows anything.
