Just purchased a 303 Martini Enfield , can anyone tell me what 1.D.M.A on the brass butt roundel stands for ? I take it that the A is for Artillery.

As far as I can remember there has only been one British Military Academy, the one that is currently located in Camberly - the RMA Sandhurst.

Dehradun Military Academy is in India, but that wasn't established until the 1930s - so unlikely to linked to Martini Enfields.

Anyway, an academy would have a rack number, and I'd guess the OP doesn't happen to have rifle number 1 out of 600 or so...

Some sort of unit. Any other markings on the rifle?

The only other marks on the roundel are 11 , 1898 and 191 which I believe are the date and rack number, has all the usual stamps doted about but nothing to determine any regimental connection
