Ken Lees Posted 3 August , 2014 Share Posted 3 August , 2014 I am researching a soldier who was killed on 8th August 1918 and was originally buried at map reference 62D.SE Q.23.b5.2 He was eventually re-buried at Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres. Can anyone provide a map showing the location of the above map reference for the original burial, please? Alternatively, can anyone point me towards the post which shows how to convert a map reference to a co-ordinate for use with Google Maps or similar. Many thanks, Ken

WhiteStarLine Posted 3 August , 2014 Share Posted 3 August , 2014 Hi Ken, Option 1 - visit http://maps.nls.uk/view/101465326#zoom=6&lat=6238&lon=8114&layers=BT. Option 2 Step 1 Visit http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=14&lat=49.87347&lon=2.67469&layers=B000000000FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF You need to have selected Belgium WW1 Trench Maps, the town Morlancourt (there are too many Morcourts) and the option for Map 62D SE. Step 2 Find Morgan wood. Step 3 Change the transparency to around 66% to see Google superimposed. Play with the slider to your heart's content. Ken, you helped me with some photos of Suzanne once. PM me for more detailed instructions!
Sepoy Posted 3 August , 2014 Share Posted 3 August , 2014 A really easy way to track these map references down is to use the Great War British Trench Map Coordinates converter here http://rdf.muninn-project.org/TrenchCoordinates.html It works well well using Firefox or Opera but not Internet explorer. Just enter your reference (without the SE) 62D.Q.23.b5.2 and it will show a current google earth image of the area. Sepoy

Ken Lees Posted 3 August , 2014 Author Share Posted 3 August , 2014 It worked OK for me using Chrome. Try this link - http://rdf.muninn-project.org/TrenchCoordinates.html And put the map reference in the search box as - 62D.V.18.D.4.
