Raster Scanning Posted 23 October , 2004 Share Posted 23 October , 2004 Recently purchased this from ebay. These men are wearing the title T/Y/Bedfordshire, I have only seen the BIY version has anyone got a good picture of this title? I also would be interested to know the location of this picture, the caption is "The next draft for France" and appears to be close to some barrack blocks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. John.

Jim Maclean Posted 23 October , 2004 Share Posted 23 October , 2004 Imperial yeomanry shoulder titles ceased to be worn in 1908 on formation of the Territorial Force. After this date titles were worn in the form T/Y/COUNTY for Yeomanry, T/4/COUNTY for Infantry, T/RFA/COUNTY etc.
bedfordyeoman Posted 23 October , 2004 Share Posted 23 October , 2004 John, Can't say I've seen the T/Y title except in photos but I don't look out for badges as a rule. I do have a photo of a yeoman wearing a BIY title with the Imperial Service badge which suggests that there was no precise cut off point. I also have a photo of an 8th Hussars group with a couple of men wearing BY cap badges. Clearly, there wasn't enough equipment at most points in the war and I am sure that there must have been considerable mix-n-match. Photo could be anywhere !! All the best David
Raster Scanning Posted 24 October , 2004 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2004 Thank you all for your replies, I also have a confirmed WW1 era picture with a yeoman wearing a BIY title. I have seen these for sale, and indeed have a couple myself. I have never seen the T/Y/Bedfordshire version and wanted one to put in a display with a Beds Yeomanry trio I have. Thanks again.
