SiegeGunner Posted 6 August , 2014 Share Posted 6 August , 2014 Basil Creighton later translated Jünger's 'Wäldchen 125' [Copse 125]. He also translated the works of Hermann Hesse, which I believe are still in print.
RodB Posted 6 August , 2014 Author Share Posted 6 August , 2014 Are the 9.2 railway mounted guns the same type BL as the "land based" platform versions deployed in SIege Batteries ? There were two totally different 9.2-inch weapons. The guns deployed on railway trucks by the Army and along the coast by the RN were long-barrelled high-velocity long-range naval guns from the 1880s and 1890s, together with the new Mk XIII gun, firing a 380-pound shell. The Royal Artillery field siege batteries used 9.2-inch howitzers with short barrels, low velocity and relatively short range firing a 290-pound shell. Nothing in common except the calibre. I think all Army batteries deploying heavy weapons were termed "siege batteries", including the railway guns.
