On Saturday the 4th June 1919 at Tudhoe Colliery, over 400 soldiers and sailors belonging to the district were honoured 'in recognition of their gallant work in the Great War'. Each man who had enlisted in HM Forces was presented with a gold medal, while 69 relatives of 'fallen heroes' were also presented with medals.

Each medal was inscribed, 'From Tudhoe Colliery Workmen and Officials, for services rendered during the great war 1914 - 18'.

Does any member of the GWF have one of the medals that they could photograph or scan for our exibition of Spennymoor & District in the Great War which opens on the 2nd August. I have tried the internet and locally without success.

Thanks

John
