Khaki Posted 17 July , 2014 Share Posted 17 July , 2014 If you want a fascinating read, have a look at the above US soldier, served from 1861 through the US Civil War and post war, recalled to service during the GW in charge of defense works. His list of CW battles and lengthy military service service is too extensive to list here. An incredible record , hard to imagine the changes he was part of, khaki

Well to be honest I don't know the exact details of his engineering defense work but as the United States has long coast lines along the eastern seaboard and the Pacific coast not to forget the Gulf of Mexico with military bases, important seaports and coastal cities and towns. The defense work potential is enormous, remembering of course the German coastal naval raids on the British coastal towns. Perhaps even, possible zeppelin raids. khaki
Uncle George Posted 18 July , 2014 Share Posted 18 July , 2014 Yes, a classmate of Custer at West Point, he fired the first shot at Bull Run. He appeared in the 'Who is This?' thread in April of this year.
