Remembered Today:

Help identifying two small inert shells

Sepoy

Recommended Posts

I have recently acquired two small calibre inert shells which I have been unable to identify. Unfortunately, the head stamps on the brass cases have been heavily polished and the markings are indistinct. I can, however, make out EOC (Elswick Ordnance Company) other marks look vaguely Chinese or Japanese!.

I have used a 1 pounder pom pom and 2 pounder cartridge cases to give an idea of size.

Any help would be gratefully received

Sepoy

47mm Hotchkiss rounds made by EOC for the Japanese Imperial Navy.

Relatively easily found in the UK.

Tony

Thank you so much for this information - are they Great War period?

Cheers

NB How are you keeping? It is now quite a few years since we had a pint or two in Aldershot with Herbie and Jeremy.

Hi Trevor

Good to hear from you!

The shells pre-date WWI as they are c. 1900.

Health is not good but we soldier on!

Why don't you come to the London Pals meet for a pint one month? It is usually the last Wednesday in the Pineapple near the IWM.

Cheers

Tony
