I have one of these with the name Wuppermann and year 17 engraved near the lip. Would anyone know where this company was based in Germany?

Hi,

Where did you get this from?

This may be the company you're looking for:

redrum,

I cannot answer your question, but I have canteens, drinking cups and messkits from Wupperman with dates ranging from 1916-1918. All these items are enameled steel. Messkit patterns made of enameled steel were authorized in the spring of 1916. Prior to this, the official model was of double tinned steel, painted field gray, which, in turn, had replaced the 1910 aluminum pattern as of Oct.15, 1914. The aluminum patterns were recalled from the front by an order of September 1915, due to the army's other requirements for aluminum.

Thanks for replies. I bought this at a militaria fair for £18.It has no lid but is in very good nick considering its age. The enamelled steel outside is field green at 90% intact and the inside is blue enamelled. The original handle is attached and as strong as ever.
