MikeyH Posted 8 July , 2014 Share Posted 8 July , 2014 (edited) From the 12th July, Pendennis Castle Royal Artillery Barracks will have an exhibition exploring the role played in the Great War by the town of Falmouth. The town was placed onto a war footing in 1914 as a Defended Port with Pendennis Castle as the military headquarters. The English Heritage display will have over 40 information boards detailing the challenges of living in a coastal fortress with photographs, artefacts and first hand accounts of soldiers stationed in Falmouth. There will be a partial re-contruction of a typical barracks sleeping quarters with beds and soldiers personal items of equipment on display. Also a Vickers .303 machine gun in a sand bagged emplacement. Hope that any GWF members, either living nearby or on holiday in the area will be able to take a look at this special Great War Centenery event. Have to admit to a certain personal interest here, in that my son and his partner have carried out a great deal of work to ensure that this is all to a good and authentic standard. Mike.
