Ghazala Posted 30 June , 2014 Share Posted 30 June , 2014 Television-watchers in Syria were surprised on Saturday to see a newsflash announcing that an archduke had been assassinated in Sarajevo. It turned out that the producer had mistaken the BBCs as live series of First World War tweets to be a contemporary feed. Imagine the terror that might be sparked in the country if the same happens when the war narrative gets to Lawrence of Arabia, right: British guerrilla leads assault on Damascus. NigelS Posted 30 June , 2014 Share Posted 30 June , 2014 If Orson Welles 1938 US Radio broadcast of his version of HG Wells 'War of the Worlds' could cause a cause a panic because some believed that Martians really were invading, this doesn't come as any real surprise, & with the speed that modern technology can spread rumours, I doubt this will be the last time this sort of thing happens.
