Cheers Dave Hello Dave Apologies for not replying sooner, but I'd not had a notification of a reply to my thread. The short answer is - I can't really remember...! I'm researching airmen from the North East of England, and maybe the DLI connection made me look him up. Something obviously made me ask on here in 2014 as I've got him mentioned briefly in my files, but I can't remember the how and why though. I see from a family tree on ancestry.co.uk that his father was oringinally from Sunderland, though, which may explain why he joined the DLI? Guest Posted 21 October , 2021 Share Posted 21 October , 2021 Ok Simon no worries. The reason I asked was that I am actually in possession of a set of binoculars owned by William Stobart which I rescued from a house reclamation place. As a veteran myself of the RAF I have an interest in military history and with his RFC links I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get them. I have added a few pictures for your interest from which you can see inscriptions scratched into the body of the binoculars referring to 29Sqn, 10DLI, Ypres 1915 and Bromham Hall where his family lived.
