NickFenton Posted 19 June , 2014 Share Posted 19 June , 2014 Guys, Just come over from WW2 Talk as moving on in my research but firstly looking something up for a friend. Jack Atherton was a WW1 RFC pilot, 2nd Lt as listed on his service record, listed with 81 and 251 Squadron's and 16 and 18 Groups, having first joined up on 22nd October 1917 from the 2nd Artists Rifles, Service No. 766239 and was demobbed in January 1919. He was 18 when he joined the RFC so it appears he may have lied about his age to join the Artists Rifles. Just going through his RFC service history as downloaded from Kew Listed here: https://archive.org/details/regimentalrollof00highiala In advance of receipt of his WW2 service record, it is understood that he joined the RAF in the second conflict and served with Bomber Command (but l can find no reference to him) before being given a desk job and somehow being involved with the roll out of the Lancaster programme.Does anyone have any knowledge of Jack's service history or come across him in their research? I look forward to hearing from you. Regards,NickKenFentonsWar.com
