pooter Posted 19 October , 2004 Posted 19 October , 2004 This photo of my wife's great great grandfather shows a cap badge with what looks like a dragon. We thought he was in the Scots Guards but clearly with this cap on he isn't. Anybody got any ideas, I wonder if he swapped caps for a joke as his colleague who is also in the photo is quite clearly wearing a guards cap badge.
hmsk212 Posted 19 October , 2004 Posted 19 October , 2004 I am no expert and stand to be corrected but it looks like a Cap Badge for the Buffs. Steve
Jim Maclean Posted 19 October , 2004 Posted 19 October , 2004 I'd also say that the top badge is the Buffs. Also the bottom badge does not look to be Scots Guards. The badge shown appears to have a crown. Also the 7.30 and 10.30 arms of the SG badge have squared ends, these look pointed and very ASC to me.
pooter Posted 19 October , 2004 Author Posted 19 October , 2004 Thanks for these replies, some more investigation clearly needed. If you look at the gallery section I have posted a picture of Sgt Stevenson marching at the head of some troops. Are you able to tell from that picture if they are men of the Buffs? Unfortunately we don't have a date on the photo. I am begining to think that it may be pre-war?
Jim Maclean Posted 19 October , 2004 Posted 19 October , 2004 Pooter, Had a look at the photo and both NCOs either side of the officer look to have Buffs badges, however at that distance
Graeme Fisher Posted 19 October , 2004 Posted 19 October , 2004 Does the larger original photo show any shoulder titles? Graeme
pooter Posted 20 October , 2004 Author Posted 20 October , 2004 No there atre none that you can make out. Over his stripes is a small round badge which I think indicates CSM but I'm no expert.
