Christmas Gift Tins were also given to those serving but not overseas in 1914. I can't remember the exact criteria or contents but if your man served before Dec 1914 he probably received the tin(I think the contents were Xmas Card photo and possibly the pencil but cant be sure)

The man has pension papers online, so hopefully this can be solved quite quickly.

Hi,

I'm glad you have managed to sort out the confusion. Looks like a good quality tin.

You may wish to amend the topic title as it is a Princess Mary Xmas Gift tine rather than a gift from her mother Queen Mary.
