crackingbloke Posted 7 June , 2014 Share Posted 7 June , 2014 Good Morning I am desperate for information regarding the actions of 2/6 South Staffs leading up to the death from wounds of Private 38137 W H Farmer on 4th December 1917. Any help most appreciated. Guy
sotonmate Posted 7 June , 2014 Share Posted 7 June , 2014 2/6 SSR were part of 176 Brigade of 59 Division which had fought to capture Bourlon Wood at the end of November 1917. This was followed on 1 Dec by a severe German counter-attack which caused many casualties, see this page from the Long Long Trail for a short account : http://www.1914-1918.net/59div.htm Walter was evacuated to Hospital in Rouen and died there. He is buried in St Sever Extension Cemetery,Rouen. SDGW shows that he was born and resident in Kingswinford,Staffs and enlisted in Oldbury,Worcs.
