gilly100 Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 Hi All Can anyone clue me in on a ship (transport?) named the Sussex? All I know is that from one source it carried troops from Alexandria in Egypt to Lemnos Island prior to the landings at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Thanks Ian
johnboy Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 SS Sussex. Cross channel ferry. sunk by torpedo 1916.

horatio2 Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 This Channel ferry does not seem to tie in with the Egypt-Gallipoli run in the OP.
johnboy Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 That's not my fault. It's the only info I and Dave have found. Perhaps the OP has not got the correct name? I am sure it would be mentioned on the net if it had been sunk as this one is.
SteveE Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 Try a different county, the S.S. "Suffolk" certainly did what the OP states. Steve
seaJane Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 The list here looks fairly comprehensive and also includes Suffolk but not Sussex. http://www.gallipoli-association.org/content/men-of-gallipoli/ships-of-gallipoli seaJane
horatio2 Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 That's not my fault. Of course not. I did not mean to imply that you were personally responsible for failing to deploy SS SUSSEX to the Aegean in 1915.
tharkin56 Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 going to have to look but think there is a photo of sussex in the great war by h w wilson
johnboy Posted 6 June , 2014 Posted 6 June , 2014 Of course not. I did not mean to imply that you were personally responsible for failing to deploy SS SUSSEX to the Aegean in 1915. I know you didn't, I should have put an exclamation mark! But it does seem that it is the only 'Sussex' Listed and the OP could have given incorrect name.
gilly100 Posted 7 June , 2014 Author Posted 7 June , 2014 Thankyou all very much for your input. Please don't have a blue on my account and poor knowledge of ships and navies! Cheers Ian
