mrfrank Posted 4 June , 2014 Share Posted 4 June , 2014 I've just obtained a large mounted photo of the 9th Norfolk MG Section. I'm assuming that this was taken shortly before their departure for France in August 1915. Unfortunately, there is no photographer's stamp to the mount. Can anyone confirm their location in the run up to the move to France? The image is of three officers, two senior NCOs and fifty three other ranks. Is this the normal complement for a Bn MG Sect in mid-1915? Finally, would anyone happen to know who the MG section officers were at that time - I'm hoping that information may be in the Bn war diary. Many thanks. Colin W Taylor Posted 4 June , 2014 Share Posted 4 June , 2014 Mike If it's just the first day of the diary you are after the battalion were in Blackdown on 21st August when the diary began. Kind regards Colin
mrfrank Posted 4 June , 2014 Author Share Posted 4 June , 2014 Thanks for the replies thus far. I've applied for the download of the war diary and attempted to attach an image of the photo here, but may attempt a better one! There are wooden hutments just visible behind the tree line so Blackdown shortly before departure for France is the likely location/time.
