Hi,

And another... any ideas what these markings on the throat of a P1907 scabbard denote? It came wrapped around a very rough condition WWI Wilkinson bayonet that came free with a deactivated Lanchester SMG in 1994.

Thanks,

Mark

Australian Markings - 2nd Military district (NSW if I recall correctly).

Yes, NSW, also called Eastern Command according to Skennerton. I have a 2nd MD with a serial no.in the 25,000's, and that is early 1912, so I guess your scabbard is early war - shippingsteel will be able to date it.

Cheers,

Tony

Well, SS should be able to date it - but id he does do ask for a source confirmation for that before relying on it! He does seem to have a lot of data on these and other bayonets but sadly he is loath to share the factual evidence - unlike our colleague LF, who will give you LOC details, etc..

Hi Mark,

Just out of interest, bearing mind this could be an Australian-made scabbard, are there any maker's marks on the locket or the chape?
