Mentioned in Richard Holmes' "Tommy" but unfortunately he does not give the name of the private on whose gravestone, this inscription was placed. Can anyone enlighten me ?

Sorry Janet. I did not mark the page, so cannot help you - but its there !

Bob - thanks very much. I have a Cambrai trip in mind and will certainly visit Private Statham. The feeling in those 3 bitter words is so palpable.

Mark,

It's a slide, but I can scan it & send it. Quality may not be as good as a digital, but leave it with me & I'll try,

Bob

If you do visit Orival Wood Cemetery, please pay your respects to Ewart Alan Mackintosh, one of the great Great War poets, killed NOvember 1917.
