Is it possible to find (or guess) a Royal Engineers company fro his regimental number? I have done it for other regiments where there is a battalion set up but the RE seem different.

All I have is Alfred Phillips Spr 94798 RE.

Thanks

Based on the service papers of 94790 and 94792, his enlistment date was about 29th April 1915, probably at Worcester. He was was possibly then sent to Fenny Stratford Signal Station. After that, anything could have happened...

The above two men were from the Gloucester area, and were both G.P.O. line telegraphists in civilian life.

On the other hand, 94800 was an engineer from Acton who enlisted at Acton on 1/5/1915 and was sent to Dunstable Signal Depot before being caught for being under age.

Some clues there I think. Although he was a Horsham man he was an Electricians Assistant in the 1911 census so signals might have been appropriate
