Peter Mc Posted 11 May , 2014 Share Posted 11 May , 2014 Does anyone have access to the attestation papers of Arthur Ernest Percival, Essex Regt, of Singapore surrender fame? I am trying to find out how tall he actually was. Various sources describe him as being ;tall', 'lanky' 'over 6 feet in height' ; but certainly one photo purporting to show him as an officer in Ireland seems to be of a much smaller man. Ron Clifton Posted 11 May , 2014 Share Posted 11 May , 2014 Hello Peter As he was an officer, I don't think he would have any attestation papers. They were for other ranks. Ron
Peter Mc Posted 11 May , 2014 Author Share Posted 11 May , 2014 Thanks Ron. I hadn't thought of that. So does anyone know if height was recorded anywhere on an officers record?
Raster Scanning Posted 27 May , 2014 Share Posted 27 May , 2014 Officers papers are available at Kew, in this picture of Percival in 1915, when with the 7th Beds Officers football team, while tall he is certainly not the tallest.
