John Cubin Posted 26 April , 2014 Share Posted 26 April , 2014 Found this at a local car boot sale, the seller saying that it would make a very nice paperweight! The fuze is still screwed into the fuze socket. Anyone like to enlighten me as to what the letters "R" and "L", either side of the arrow, mean? Are the marks "Y" and "P8" on the fuze socket inspection stamps? And what is the purpose of the hole at the top of the fuze? Thanks.
TonyE Posted 26 April , 2014 Share Posted 26 April , 2014 The "R" and "L" stand for "Royal Laboratory", that part of the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich concerned with the production of ammunition, fuzes, chemical stores etc. The holes in the fuzes are to vent gas from the burning powder trains.
