Retrac Posted 22 April , 2014 Share Posted 22 April , 2014 Well away from my comfort zone here so any help gratefully received. I have been asked whether it is possible to identify to which regiment, or battalion, a particular gun had been allocated in 1914? This is a long shot, excuse the pun, but any help with getting a method to identify an individual weapon from its number gratefully received. More in hope than expectation David
johnboy Posted 22 April , 2014 Share Posted 22 April , 2014 I doubt very much they were stamped. Google maxim machine gun and see what comes up.
TonyE Posted 22 April , 2014 Share Posted 22 April , 2014 Unfortunately, no. The only thing that a serial number will tell you is an approximate date of manufacture. No records were kept of which units were issued which gun. Regards TonyE
