Remembered Today:

Sawdocs new Turks

Our mate Sawdocs is off on his work travels again and picking up nice bayonets everywhere... And he is unable to post here while travelling but he has kept me up to date with his finds... (And I am NOT jealous at what he has been finding - honestly Aleck - )... Anyway, I am helping out with the posting, and although I don't know really where to where to start (we are talking a wide range here, including 98/05's sawback removed), as it is 21:15 here in Turkey, I guess S>S> will be online soonish if not already (you on Canberra or Perth time?!), and so here are Aleck's new Turks... Lovely scabbard, better that anything I have...( )

A couple of nice full length M1890's there Aleck. I am pleased our friend Sawdoc has finally seen the light and started avoiding those "unfortunately shortened" Turks. :P

The one on the left looks to be a Sauer but I can't quite make out the mark on the right-hand side. Clearer close-ups of the marks would be appreciated for my database.

Excellent that's much clearer (and certainly makes it easier) ... so the makers are Sauer to the left and Simson to the right - job done.!

Thanks for the help with posting & info on makers chaps, will have to go thru other thread to find out which other makers I already had now that I got some tie on labels for my bayonets.

What order do they come in from most common to uncommon?

Aint given up on those poor unfortunate turked bayonets, just with 50+ full length/cut down turks, its gettin harder to find new examples ;)

Cheers,

Aleck

  • 2 weeks later...

My only 1890 picked up earlier this year. 1896, but is it a Sauer?

Yep, a Sauer 1312 (so made in or around 1894) one of the most common marking combinations that I have encountered in my research to date.
