Credit for the Inveramsay "finds" are due elsewhere. First to my mate, George Cogswell, who researches the war dead in the borough of Trafford - he had already submitted two names to CWGC and mentioned the issue to me. Between his efforts searching the records on Find My Past and similar efforts by forum members NigelS and TcM59, they found the full crew.

It did prompt a further In From The Cold exercise to cross check ships losses against CWGC and to do some follow up work - mainly by Terry (TcM59) and me. There were no other significant issues of non-commemoration but we've identified some errors in the CWGC database - mainly wrong ships names. It turned up a single name of a man who appears to be uncommemorated. Unfortunately, it also turned up losses from several ships where the names of the, mainly, asian crewmembers had not been recorded and we are unable to do anything to progress those fatalities.

A slight correction: The Inveramsay wasn’t torpedoed. Per the official German history, she was sunk by gunnery. I haven’t looked at U 62's war diary, but I would suspect that this would be another case of a stop-and-sink in which the crew wasn’t recovered after taking to the lifeboats.

Best wishes,

Michael
