Remembered Today:

French uniforms, La Legion

Here is another one for the Pals.

French Foreign Legion in France, WWI....when they arrived anyway.

My old "Britains" set has them in red trousers and I have also seen pictures and/or drawings of them in white trousers.

My guess is that the white ones were perhaps cotton and worn in the desert during the hot season and the red ones were wool and worn in the cooler months. Can anyone out there give me some guidence on this?

Thanks in advance,

DrB

As far as I'm aware you are correct the white trousers were cotton North African summer uniform and the red trousers were "Garance" with a black stripe and were African winter uniform.

Roger.
