Remembered Today:

Military Cross - Named to a French Officer, possible war author?

Good morning,

I would be grateful for any information on a medal and its recipient.

I recently purchased a world war one Military Cross to a French officer.

The reverse of the medal is named, in a similar font to privately named British medals, as follows:

Lt L. Guiral 74e R.I.

Artois Juillet 1915

I have attached a photo showing the naming on the medal.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find out any information about this person nor why they received the British military cross.

There is a Loius Guiral who wrote a book in the 1960's about the war in the Champagne region between 1914 and 1915.

The book is called:

Je les Grignote.... Champagne 1914-1915

I doubt this is the same person but have so far drawn a blank.

I have attached a photo showing the naming on the medal.

Any information or assistance would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks and kind regards

Harry
