Rank on medals

Hi

Sorry about very basic question

I might have the option on a 14-15 medal and a british war medal to a casualty in the connaught rangers died March 1916

on the war graves comission website he is listed as Lance Corporal

on the mons medal he is Pte.

would this be normal and when i see the war medal (which i have yet to see) should i see him listed as private as this would have been awarded when he was a private?

I am more a bayonet/sword collector so medals are outside my comfort zone

lance corporal is an appointment not a rank

so this is quite the normal for campaign medals

war medal will say his highest rank gained overseas - most likely private

have you checked the MIC ?

so just to confirm all his medals would be Private

as it was an appointment how come it has lance corporal on CWGC site?

I havn't checked MIC as I know next to nothing about medals or their research

I have a split trio and he is private on his war medal, but is lance corporal on his 15 star. His MIC shows the same, red writing for the star and blue for the other two. Best to check his MIC as that might show both ranks.

Seems like he went to war as a pte being killed when l/cpl
