cwbuff Posted 6 March , 2014 Share Posted 6 March , 2014 Below is a picture of a Saxon artilleryman from Field Artillery Regiment No. 64. I'm seeking help on identifying the ribbon(s) on his left chest. I have also included a close-up of the ribbons.
cwbuff Posted 6 March , 2014 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2014 The picture is was taken either late or just after the Great War. To me, this looks like two ribbons. The one on the right side looks like the Iron Cross ribbon with metal cross attachment. Is that correct? The ribbon on the left looks like it may have the pattern black-white-red-white black. What would that be?
ritterk Posted 7 March , 2014 Share Posted 7 March , 2014 As a Saxon NCO, the first medal is probably the Friedrich August Medal followed by the Iron Cross 2nd Class, which was a Prussian award. Awards of a soldier's home state always were worn first. The small iron cross on the ribbon indicates he was also awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class.
