mickgall Posted 8 October , 2004 Share Posted 8 October , 2004 Hi all Sorry this is a bit of topic but couldnt think of anywhere else to look. Someone I know has thre medals - South African King and Queens and Imperial long service medal.I havent seen them but on them is written A.S.Q SGT. JOHN B SELBY 21 LANCERS HINDOOSTAN,LEICESTERSHIRE SOUTH AFRICA 1901-02 ORANGE FREE STATE. I'm a bit confused why Hidoostan and South Africa would be on the same medals. Would A.S.Q.Sgt stand for Acting Squadron Quartermaster Sgt. Any help greatly appreciated Mick gall
Piglet Posted 8 October , 2004 Share Posted 8 October , 2004 Mick, It sounds as though some wires are crossed somewhere - the "Hindoostan, Leicestershire" bit sounds like a Leicestershire Regiment capbadge - a tiger with "Hindoostan" over and "Leicestershire" under - certainly nothing to do with the three medals. "South Africa 1901", "South Africa 1902" and "Orange Free State" are clasps for the Queen's and King's South Africa medals - Orange Free State belongs with the Queen's and the other two are usually on the King's but can be on the Queen's if the King's medal wasn't awarded.
