Trevelyan Posted 3 March , 2014 Share Posted 3 March , 2014 In case this may be of interest to some, I've uploaded some photos from a collection of mine of the 2/4 Border Regiment in India and Afghanistan 1916-1919. The battalion took part in the Mohmand Blockade as well as the 3rd Afghan War. Best Regards,Christopher http://www.king-emperor.com/2-4%20Border%20Regiment.html
MaureenE Posted 3 March , 2014 Share Posted 3 March , 2014 Thanks for posting Christopher. Photographs of Territorial Force troops appear to be somewhat scarce, so are always interesting to see. Cheers Maureen
colmcam Posted 17 May , 2014 Share Posted 17 May , 2014 Christopher Thanks for posting these, My father, A/Sgt Edward Campbell, was in the 2/4th Border Regiment in India. I have his MRIC and his India General Service Medal with Afghanistan NWF 1919 Clasp. Can't help wondering if he's in any of the photo's. I'd like to find out more about his Army service, he didn't leave many clues! Cheers Malcolm

colmcam Posted 18 May , 2014 Share Posted 18 May , 2014 Steve Thanks for the info'. I think he served with the Border Regiment in Ireland after India so his papers may well be with the MOD. Cheers Malcolm

Cheers Malcolm Malcolm, if he "soldiered" on into the 1920's he would be renumbered with a 7 digit army (not regimental) service number in the Border Regiment sequence commencing 3589??? into the low 359???? colmcam Posted 21 May , 2014 Share Posted 21 May , 2014 Steve According to his MRIC he had two Regimental numbers only, 2307 as Pte and 200963 as A/Sgt. Does this mean that he left the Regiment before 1920? Regards Malcolm
tullybrone Posted 22 May , 2014 Share Posted 22 May , 2014 Hi, Not necessarily. Numbers on MIC indicate his regimental numbers during, but not post, WW1. I have a great uncle served 1909/1921 - should have gone to the reserve 1916 but soldiered on until early 1919 due to the war. He was allocated a 7 figure army service number whilst on the reserve but his medals have his 4 figure regimental number. Steve Y
