sixbeethree Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 I have my grandads medals and SWB and have recently been given another veterans box.I now have two sets but the SWB? is about one inch diameter has 'For Loyal Service' around the edge and has a sort of fixing that could be put into a button hole. What is this please?
enoch beard Posted 7 October , 2004 Posted 7 October , 2004 hello, i think the badge you are talking about is the' kings badge for war service' it was issued in the 2nd world war,it was awarded to personnel who did not qualify for one or other of the service medals or campaign stars, and who had been invalided out of the services enoch
sixbeethree Posted 7 October , 2004 Author Posted 7 October , 2004 Thanks enoch He was invalided out. He was in the reserves in WW2. He served in the RFC in WW!.
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 8 October , 2004 Posted 8 October , 2004 Strangely the King's Badge for Loyal Service{WW2} was issued in two sizes, the Normal 3/4" Dia & a Smaller 1/2" Dia Version{both in White Metal{Nickel}though I have seen [& Have Examples of the Smaller Badge[1/2"]in both Nickel & Chromium*{*Which I believe were later issues}]Though the Badges were issued unnumbered; the Box of Issue was numbered as was the Issue certificate
