Jacky Platteeuw Posted 7 October , 2004 Share Posted 7 October , 2004 Could any Pal enlighten me on the exact name and possibly typez (German or English) of following photo of an object. Obviously it is German and is known in French as a 'plaque de getteur'. Jacky
Max Poilu Posted 7 October , 2004 Share Posted 7 October , 2004 Jacky, It is a German sniper's face shield. Weight around 13 lbs, fitted with forehead padding and tied to the head with leather straps. Should have two very tiny eye slits.

Max Poilu Posted 7 October , 2004 Share Posted 7 October , 2004 Jacky, Is this in a private collection or a public museum? Never seen one of these in the flesh. Got any more?
Jacky Platteeuw Posted 7 October , 2004 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2004 Giles, The secret is that two have been found in Boezinge. One is going to In Flanders Field (hopefully to be displayed at the museum) and one has been lent to, I know it is against rules, Hooge Crater Museum where it is on publi display. The owner just wanted me to make a small note explaining the thing. I wanted to be sure about the name and possibly the type, date of use etc. Jacky
Guest Chip Minx Posted 9 October , 2004 Share Posted 9 October , 2004 Giles, There is another one on display near Reims at La Pompelle. It is mounted on a mannequin in the museum gallery (underground). Chip
