Remembered Today:

Northumberland Fusiliers

Hi

Being completely ignorant on the Northumberland Fusiliers I wonder if is it possible to tell to which Battalion a Private first belonged just by his Service Number? I have a Silver War Badge to a Private in the Machine Gun Corps who originally served with the Northumberland Fusiliers. His service number with the Fusiliers was 22225 (Private Thomas Collins Sutcliffe). He enlisted on 21/05/1915 but was only entitled to the British War & Victory Medals. He later joined the MGC as Private 5883, quite an early number in the scheme of things MGC. He was 42years of age when he was discharged due to sickness on 08/11/1917. As his Service Records no longer exist I thought that the vast knowledge of the Pals may help me fill in a few of the blanks in my research into his career.

Cheers

Steve

Steve

Judging by his number I would suggested that your man enlisted with

the 12th battalion.

I'm afraid I have no documentary evidence to support this at present but I will

however see if I can find any further info and get back to you.

Kind Regards

Peter
