Spedini Posted 19 February , 2014 Share Posted 19 February , 2014 l have two of these fine revolvers and l wonder if someone can tell me why the stampings(marks) on the cylinders differs. The one with the short barrel do not have any WD or .455 stampings like the other one have ? Thanks in advance.
Khaki Posted 19 February , 2014 Share Posted 19 February , 2014 The shorter barrel revolver has a 'barrel' that appears to be that of a MkV (note the fixed blade front sight) although the top strap appears to be stamped MkV1, my guess would be that 'shorty' is a private purchase, hence no govt marks, or perhaps a private purchase special order for an individual customer's personal taste. Do the serial numbers match? Very interesting post, thank you. khaki
Spedini Posted 20 February , 2014 Author Share Posted 20 February , 2014 Thanks khaki, all the serialnumbers are matching.Do you know anything about the stamps on the cylinders. The MKlll has something like a star ?
TonyE Posted 20 February , 2014 Share Posted 20 February , 2014 The stamp is a civilian proof. It is the crossed sceptres of the Birmingham Proof House. If it has no military marks then it was a private purchase. Regards TonyE
