LRJanzen Posted 18 February , 2014 Posted 18 February , 2014 Does anyone know a good source of French Trench Maps or The french equivelent of the USGS maps for 1914 or before? In particular the area around Verdun. My interest is in the pre-American situation. Thanks Lonnie
4thGordons Posted 18 February , 2014 Posted 18 February , 2014 Lonnie I have a few extracts from that area for research into an AFS SSU working in the area. There are also members of the forum who have extensive collections of maps who may be able to help. I also found useful sketch maps in some of the French unit diaries which can be viewed online. tim_oz Posted 19 February , 2014 Posted 19 February , 2014 Loonie The JMOs of the Palace de Verdun has two volumes of maps which cover 1916 but may be useful. You can find them here; http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/fr/arkotheque/visionneuse/visionneuse.php?arko=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#uielem_move=338%2C69&uielem_islocked=0&uielem_zoom=48&uielem_brightness=0&uielem_contrast=0&uielem_isinverted=0&uielem_rotate=F http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/fr/arkotheque/visionneuse/visionneuse.php?arko=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 You can down load individual maps or save the images as jpegs. The JMO's are a great source of maps but you do need to hunt around. Tim B
healdav Posted 19 February , 2014 Posted 19 February , 2014 The Préfecture or Mairie at Nates has, for some reason, complete sets of maps. If you google Nantes, you will find details of contacts, etc.
LRJanzen Posted 19 February , 2014 Author Posted 19 February , 2014 merci beaucoup! Right now I am listening to the Audible recording of Mosier's Verdun. Very good book. I had my usual complaint with the publishers of audio book in that they do not supply the figures andmaps as a pdf to accompany the audio.
