Der Gruson Fahrpanzer - Just kind of interesting...

Found this 53mm x 176mm casing a number of years ago in a local shop and had a heck of a time figuring what it went to. German, dated April 1915, finally ID'd it to the Gruson Fahrpanzer.... what you say? That's what I said. What a crazy looking piece.

The Fahrpanzer was a fortress item and usually mounted on small railway type wheels. They ran along a narrow gauge track behind a low parapet that ran between large concrete shelters. When an assault was made on the fortress they could emerge from these shelters to fire on the assaulting troops. Usually a two man crew. The one in the photo is on its transport wagon - it did not fight from this.. In WW1 many were embedded in various trench positions

Gruson and later Krupp sold them all around the world including to the KuK, Turkey and Russia
