Northern Soul Posted 4 October , 2004 Posted 4 October , 2004 I am making this post on behalf of Ivor, who has asked if anyone can identify the badge on Joseph Steele's arm above the lance corporal stipe - or is it just the 55th West Lancs Division badge? Cheers. Andy.
AndrewThornton Posted 4 October , 2004 Posted 4 October , 2004 It is the 55th Division's sign as you suspect - the Red Rose, with green stem and leaves, embroidered on a drab circular patch.
anthony Posted 13 October , 2004 Posted 13 October , 2004 my gt-uncles rose of lancaster from his uniform.
Joe Sweeney Posted 14 October , 2004 Posted 14 October , 2004 Andy, Your photo shows a fairly rare (in photos anyway) result of GRO 2137, 13 February 1917. That is the "Kings Own" title sewn to the sleeve is actually a slip on title originally meant to replace all metal titles with issue beginning in 1916. It was intended to slip on to the Shoulder tab. For some reason the BEF issued the above order stating that they should instead by sewn to the sleeve below the point of the shoulder. Interesting photo. Joe Sweeney
