Kellyk Posted 29 January , 2014 Share Posted 29 January , 2014 Hi, I am interested in some information about my great grandfather and wondered if anybody might have a war diary entry. Private John Vaughan 27546, 10th Battalion, Essex Regiment, 'D' Company The information I have is that he got posted as missing on 26-7-1916 and got admitted with a gun shot wound to his left leg 27-7-1916 He was a runner. I know that he will probably not be mentioned in the diary, but wondered if anything concerning him would. So if anybody has any war diary entries or information concerning a runner, wound or missing around these days it would be great Thanks, Kelly

wipers99 Posted 27 February , 2014 Share Posted 27 February , 2014 it might also be worth consulting Capt Chell's book "With the 10th Essex in France" for an account of the battalion's activities on the Somme
Guest Bagdad11 Posted 9 March , 2014 Share Posted 9 March , 2014 Dear Sir, I am unsure if you are able to help me. My grandfather served in the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment. His Regiment No was 8956 His name is Edward MannHe landed in France on 22nd August 1914. He was later transferred to the Labour Corps where his number changed to 255330 I gather he was wounded in October 1914 in France. Other than this i know very little about my grandfather, and any information you provide would be particularly helpful. Best Regards Alan Mann (Email address masjid11@hotmail.co.uk)
