Derek Robertson Posted 3 October , 2004 Share Posted 3 October , 2004 From information listed on the CWGC site, I know that the cemetery was begun in June, 1917, and used until September, 1919. Tincourt was a base used by Casualty Clearing Stations. I am interested to know if records still exist for the cemetery which show which plots were the original ones used to bury the dead from the C.C.S? Plot 5 contains several "multiple" headstones and I have suspected that this was due to an influx of casualties from the C.C.S. but I'd like definate proof. Major William F.Beattie M.C of Hawick is buried in Plot 5 and he shares a headstone with another soldier. He is thought to have been wounded at Joncourt in early October 1918 (the same engagement Wilfred Owen won his M.C?). I'm trying to establish if he died at Joncourt and his body was reinterred at Tincourt (but why then would he have to share a headstone?) or whether he died of wounds at a C.C.S at Tincourt.
