Ron da Valli Posted 21 January , 2014 Share Posted 21 January , 2014 (edited) The inscription reads " God protect the Alpini".It was probably more of a religious good luck medal than military. The Alpini were the highly regarded Italian Alpine troops, they wore a feather in their caps. From memory they had the Austrians on the ropes in the north of Italy until the Germans sent troops to help out. Rommel fought in Italy but wether against the "Alpini" I'm not sure. Sanitäts-Oberjäger Karl Krentel, Hannoversches Jägerbataillon 10, KIA 15.07.1918 near Courcelles/Marnein the 2nd Battle of the Marne, no named grave.
