Hi

Does anyone know what this item is, I found near to Delville Wood and just off the road to Ginchy. It is not that big -it fits in my hand easy. I was thinking part of an axle ?

One of the pair of plugs that went on either side of a drum of signal wire and allowed a handle to go through so that a couple of signallers could pay it out as they accompanied the last wave of an assault?
