One can't help but feel that those that came to war from these beautiful places must have been especially affected by the horrors of the Western Front.

Shetland, is like many small rural communities in Scotland and throughout Britain, close nit and blessed with its own unique environment, culture and community.

Something else which adds to Shetlands individuality is its relative 'isolation' from the rest of Britain which bred then, as it does now, a close community. The old cliche' that 'everyone knows everyone else' rang true then, and still to a degree today.
