smitten Posted 15 January , 2014 Posted 15 January , 2014 Following my earlier posting I have the following information about my relative who served with the Tank Corps which hopefully (fingers crossed) will be sufficient to enable someone to tell me which battalion he served with? Judging by his d.o.b he would have served towards the end of the war, possibly from late 1917 onwards. Private 311156 Ernest Adkins D.O.B 29th May 1899 Kind Regards Colin.
andrew pugh Posted 15 January , 2014 Posted 15 January , 2014 Hi Colin. His service record are on ancestry. Looks like he came from Birmingham area Yarbrook .Service Records not Pension Records. Kind regards Andy
delta Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 Only three forms within the record. A little info around enlistment (7 May 17) and then intial medical (26 Jul 17) No detailed service record. Diachsrged through Fovant on 3 Nov 1919 having served on the Rhine Unit is not easy to read but I think he served with 16th Bn
smitten Posted 16 January , 2014 Author Posted 16 January , 2014 Thank you so much for this, we can now dig deeper to see where abouts he served during the hostilties before our trip to Flanders in April this year. Kind Regards Colin.
delta Posted 16 January , 2014 Posted 16 January , 2014 If he was in 16th Battalion, you will need to go south into France near St Quentin Rob Martin's website will provide a good introduction. https://sites.google.com/site/landships/home/narratives/narratives-by-battalion/16th-battalion but I strongly suggest that you read the War History as well as the War Diary which are both available at Kew
17tankman Posted 18 January , 2014 Posted 18 January , 2014 Hi Pte Adkins served in 18th Tank Corps. 17tankman
