Welcome to the forum!

As I am very sure you are aware JONES is a very common surname.

(In fact, looking at John, for example, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) lists 1174 casualties named J JONES and no John JONES with a Ty calch connection)

This means it is necessary to have much more information before any searches could be successful.

Please could you add all the information you already know for sure and then add any information which you cannot be sure of but maybe the family believes was true.

Very helpful information would be:

Date of birth

Parents names

Were they married

When they died

Do you know if they were soldiers or sailors?

Any information from medals the family still have

Any photographs in uniform

Information which has not been confirmed could include places the family believes they fought etc.

If they were soldiers THIS is a very good place to find help.

Hello, just for info. Bangor Memorial Arch shows five J Jones, and Llanfaglan three Jones, two are J and one R so yours I guess.

Try here http://www.bangorcivicsociety.org.uk/pages/arch/DSCF4347.htm

You may not be able to post photos 'till you have five or more posts so send to me pistyllg@btopenworld.com if you wish. I can then add them on your behalf.

Nothing else found yet.

The "Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919" on page 97 has this entry for the 1/6th Battalion:

"Jones, John b. Clynog, Carn., e. Carnarvon, 1332 Pte., d., Gallipoli, 23/8/15 "

The "Clynog" of course, should be Clynnog...and "Carnarvon"...Caernarfon!

Casualty Roll of the 1st 6th RWF in action in the Dardanelles from 8th August 1915 shows that Pte 1332 J Jones of Ty Calch, Llanfaglan died of dysentery on 23/8/1915.

He was one of a number of men who died of disease on Gallipoli during that campaign.

There were a number of reports regarding 'local' men in the various newspapers. Caernarfon & Denbigh Herald dated 3 9 1915 has a report of his death which includes a photo.

Many Welsh newspapers recently came online

Unfortunately C & D isn't amongst them. It will be at the County Archives, Victoria Dock if you live in the area and can't find it in the others.
